If you're looking for the perfect off-road machine that blends high performance with overlanding capabilities, this 2022 Toyota Tundra is a serious contender. Starting life as a stock Tundra SR5 with the TRD Off Road 4x4 package, this build quickly evolved into an overland powerhouse that also has the potential to be a dedicated prerunner. With its jaw-dropping modifications, the Tundra seamlessly combines style, utility, and off-road prowess—designed to conquer any terrain while turning heads along the way.

Andy, known online as "Enjoy The Ride Dude," the creator of this incredible build, epitomizes the “built, not bought” ethos. A passionate off-roader and overlander, he’s known for creating one of the first genuine 3rd-generation Tundra off-road videos on YouTube (Enjoy The Ride Dude), offering a unique, real-world look at Toyota’s latest offerings. His Instagram (Enjoy The Ride Dude @enjoytheridedude) is full of behind-the-scenes glimpses into his builds, and it's well worth checking out if you're into purpose-driven overlanding.
Starting with the solid foundation of the 2022 Toyota Tundra, Andy outfitted it with a fully upgraded suspension system that incorporates trusted components like Total Chaos and King shocks. This combination gives the Tundra ample clearance and impressive articulation for tackling even the toughest trails. Add to that a set of 37-inch Geolandar G003 mud-terrain tires mounted on 17-inch Method Race Wheels, and this Tundra is more than equipped for any off-road challenge.

This build offers a blend of rugged functionality and style, starting with the practical yet striking upTOP Overland bed rack, which carries an iKamper BDV Duo rooftop tent. This setup is perfect for off-grid camping and adventure travel, combining utility and comfort in one neat package. The front of the truck is equipped with an adaptive light bar, multiple pod lights, and an integrated winch system, ensuring you're prepared for any off-road situation.
For added toughness and protection, the Tundra is equipped with Southern Style OffRoad (SSO) armor, including a full-plate Slimline bumper, rock sliders, and a set of ditch light brackets. The Tundra's high-quality aftermarket modifications give it an aggressive look while ensuring reliability in even the most demanding conditions.

Fun fact: This very Tundra was the test vehicle for developing the SSO bumper, a key component of the build.

Inside, the Tundra has received an equally impressive upgrade. The factory seats have been replaced with Katzkin Pacific Blue leather upholstery, which not only enhances the truck’s overall aesthetic but also complements the Method Race Wheels. Custom features, like front seat heaters and high-tech Garmin devices, ensure that Andy can confidently navigate any off-road adventure.

As impressive as this Tundra is, it’s far from finished. The future plans for this build are equally ambitious. The vehicle is set to receive 40-inch Geolandar G003 mud-terrain tires and 74Weld portal axles. The suspension will also undergo a major upgrade with long-travel components from Total Chaos, including secondary bypass shocks. Carbon fiber fenders are also in the works.
By 2023, Andy plans to take the Tundra to the next level, prepping it for the King of the Hammers races at Johnson Valley OHV Area in California. This transformation will include a full cage, 46-inch Mickey Thompson tires, and the removal of fenders and bedsides. Additionally, a Marlin Crawler secondary gearbox, a solid axle swap with Dynatrac or Currie axles, and ARB lockers will round out this formidable setup. The truck will then be transferred to a new build, a 3rd generation Toyota Sequoia in the Trail Hunter configuration.
